Baby Driver (2017)

Director: Edgar Wright

Starring: Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm

After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.

The chemistry between Ansel Elgort and Lily James is really great. Ansel is perfectly cast as Baby, and Kevin Spacey was excellent as per usual. A premise that’s been done a zillion times before is taken to another level thanks to the movie being shot with incredible flair, and great dialogue. The action scenes were nothing to write home about compared to today’s action films, but they were simple and effective and above all very realistic. As with most gangs, their plans go haywire towards the end as they all fall apart, and this was wonderfully done. There were no silly, slapstick humor which normally accompanies films of this genre and that was refreshing.

The film was a huge box office success, earning almost $227 million on a $34 million budget.
