AVCA Top 25 (Final)

The AVCA has released their final Top 25 Poll. It’s no surprise that Juniata is your final #1 team but it wasn’t unanimous. They received 89 of the 90 first place votes with CMS receiving the other first place vote. It appears that the vote was a mistake by Coach Ben Somera. His final Top 25 matches exactly his previous entry so I’m assuming something went wrong in the entry. If you want to see more mistakes, you can also check out my final Top 25.

Juniata was followed by Trinity, Northwestern, NYU and CMS. You have to remember that a lot of voters just take the final results and make that their entry. CMS getting the 5th spot means there were a number of out-of-the-box voters, which I applaud.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Hope, Transylvania, Calvin, MIT and Berry. That means all of the Elite 8 teams made the Top 10 except Johns Hopkins who finished 12th.

The one team I find funny is Williams. I suspected they would make the Top 25 based on their regional final appearance. They beat Babson and Wesleyan this season. Other teams beat much better teams and couldn’t get an at-large bid. The power of the New England Region!

Teams dropping out were UW-Eau Claire, Albion, Ithaca and UC Santa Cruz. Teams coming in were Johns Hopkins, Chris Newport, Mary Washington and Williams.

The Region X teams in the final poll were Trinity and CMS. I’m not sure the last time only two West teams made the final poll. Maybe never. Region X teams receiving votes were UC Santa Cruz, UT-Dallas and Texas Lutheran.

A nice cap to the season. Some sanity mixed in with stupidity. In other words, a perfect DIII season!
