The AVCA has released their Top 25 for Week 5.
The AVCA has kept La Verne as their first choice for the second straight week as they firmed up their support by getting 6 additional first-place votes. They now have 80 of the 86. ETBU again finished second receiving 4 first-place votes (the same as last week). UW-Oshkosh was third with UW-Whitewater finishing in fourth with the remaining 2 first-place votes. That’s 2-loss UW-Whitewater, by the way. I guess we should be happy that 4-loss Hope failed to repeat with their first-place vote from last week. Rounding out the Top 5 was UW-Eau Claire giving the WIAC three teams in the Top 5. That has to be a record or close to it, you would think.
The same 10 teams remained in the Top 10 although the ordering was slightly changed. WashU and UW-Eau Claire swapped spots going from 5th to 10th and 10th to 5th. The full list of teams rounding out the Top 10 were Juniata, Emory, IWU, Johns Hopkins and WashU. If you would like to compare and contrast my rankings, you can find them here.
The rankings last week had two teams tied for 25th in Carthage and Carnegie Mellon and both fell out entirely this week. They were replaced by Tufts who had a nice win over Johns Hopkins this week. My rankings now differ with the AVCA on three teams. I have Lynchburg, William Smith and Carnegie Mellon while the AVCA has Virginia Wesleyan, Dubuque and Washington & Lee.
The biggest jump this week was 5 spots achieved by both UW-Eau Claire and Hope. The biggest fall was 7 spots achieved by Marietta.
Teams we closely follow on this site in the rankings are La Verne (1), ETBU (2), Trinity (11), Berry (14) and CMS (17). Teams receiving votes are Southwestern, Colorado College, Chris Newport and Whitworth.
