The AVCA has released their Top 25 26 for Week 4.
The AVCA now has their third #1 team of the year through four weeks. Parity can be fun. This time they happen to match my #1 in La Verne. They received 74 first-place votes. Slotting into the second spot is East Texas Baptist as they received 4 first-place votes. Despite their loss to Northwestern, Oshkosh stayed at number three while last week’s number one (Whitewater) fell to the fourth spot. Rounding out the top 5 is WashU. Whitewater still received 5 first-place votes. The other two first-place votes went to Johns Hopkins and IWU.
Those last two teams start off the next five and they are followed by Juniata, Emory and UW-Eau Claire. UWEC is the team that just beat Whitewater who is 6 places above them. Remember, the AVCA takes their time to get things right. I think next week, the 2013 rankings will be perfect. My rankings move a little faster but are also far from perfect. You can find those rankings, here.
The AVCA only bounced UW-Platteville from their Top 25 this week but decided they were so good that they needed two teams to replace them. In comes Wesleyan at 22nd and Carthage who ties Carnegie Mellon for 25th. Where we differ is that I have William Smith and Lynchburg while the AVCA has Virginia Wesleyan, Dubuque and Carthage. It should be noted that the AVCA has Lynchburg and then William Smith next up in the receiving votes category.
OMG! I just saw that there was another first-place vote given to Hope because they are 9-4 (not 4-4 as the AVCA has them) and have losses to Denison and Chicago. Neither of them are in their Top 25!?! Crazy! The lengths one voter will go NOT to give it to a West team.
MIT has the most improvement going from 121 (!) to 16. Yes, there were some errors in this early drop of the rankings. They actually fell 4 spots. Jumping four spots were Eau Claire and Trinity. Beating out MIT for the most spots to drop was Washington & Lee who fell 5 spots.
Teams we closely follow on this site in the rankings are La Verne (1), ETBU (2), Trinity (12), Berry (15) and CMS (17). Teams receiving votes are Southwestern, Chris Newport and Whitworth.
