AVCA Top 25 (9/17/19)

The week three AVCA Top 25 coaches poll is out, which you can find here.

The top 5 stayed the same but only CMS stayed in their spot. We do have a new #1 with Calvin receiving 73 first place votes (Emory received the other 5 votes). Emory moved to the second spot followed by CMS, JWU (RI) and Berry.

My rankings came out yesterday and we are now three teams apart. The AVCA has Wesleyan at 15, Babson at 21 and Ithaca at 24. I have Saint Olaf (20), UW-Stevens Point (21) and Muskingum (22). The big mover was Carthage as they jumped from 19 to 10 in the AVCA Poll. The big drop came from Hope as they fell from 13 to 20. Bad day for the West Region as the AVCA dropped both Pacific Lutheran and UMHB from the poll but in fairness, I never had Pac Lu and also dropped UMHB. Newcomers into the AVCA Poll were Transylvania (22) and Heidelberg (25).

Looking specifically at the West Region and we only have 3 teams Top 25 – CMS (3), Trinity (9) and Colorado College (11). That may be the lowest number of teams in recent memory. In the receiving votes category, we have UT-Dallas, UMHB and Pacific Lutheran.

Taking the roll call this week and we see that there were 63 voters up from 60 last week. We did get one new first-time voter as the list of names is now up to 72 out of the 78 who are supposed to vote.

It appears that 0-8 Illinois Wesleyan has finally done enough to stop getting votes. The one New England coach I was tracking still has 5 New England teams on her rankings.
