AVCA Top 25 (10/4/22)

2 min read

The AVCA has released their Week 5 Top 25 Poll and we see that Colorado College have been dropped, which puts their streak of being ranked in the final poll since 2008 at risk. Also dropped was IWU who had a pretty bad week.

Jumping back to the top, there is no change with the Top 4 teams. CMS is still the unanimous choice followed by Trinity, Juniata and Northwestern. I have the same four but in a slightly different order in my rankings. Berry jumps up one spot to get into the Top 5.

With IWU and Colorado College dropping out, we needed two new teams and they came in the form of Coe College and UW-Oshkosh. It should be noted that the linked AVCA rankings have an error that indicates Coe was ranked 14th last week, which is not correct. Now that I look at it, all of the “Previous Week” numbers are pulled from the rankings last week (cut/paste error). So, disregard what I’ve written when I’ve compared last week’s results to this week. Sigh.

From Region X, we now only have CMS and Trinity in the rankings. Teams receiving votes are Colorado College, Whitworth and UC Santa Cruz.

Teams I have in my rankings that the AVCA does not are Transylvania, IWU, Whitworth and Aurora. The AVCA, in their place, has Babson, MIT, Gustavus Adolphus and Birmingham-Southern.

One reader (MIAA-Fan) has been tracking the voters and their choices. Here is what he wrote about this week’s poll:

In this week’s AVCA poll, 61 voters voted and the top eight teams were named on all 61 ballots. Of course CMS was first on all ballots while Trinity, Juniata, and Northwestern received second-place votes (Trinity at 52). These three and Berry received third-place votes while twelve different teams received fourth-place votes. Coe was on 44 ballots, up from 19 the week before and just 4 in week 3.

Good stuff from MIAA-Fan. If we can continue with people writing and sending me stuff, I may be able to phone my part in!
