AVCA Top 25 (10/22/24)

Look who remembered this week! Yes, we have the AVCA Top 25 for Week 8 released. Status quo is the story of this week’s rankings until you get to 24 and 25.

Starting at the top and it’s still Juniata with 85 of the possible 86 first place votes. They are followed by Hope, Johns Hopkins, MIT and Emory. MIT has the other first place vote. Emory passes UW-Oshkosh into that 5th spot. In fact, looking at the top 10 and we have the same teams as last week. The only changes were a drop of one spot by Oshkosh and 2 spots by Whitewater. We could start an AVCA hates the WIAC conspiracy theory but just hold that thought.

I didn’t do rankings this week but split teams up into tiers because I was bored with the lack of changes.

Back to the AVCA and there were two teams dropped this week; NYU and Gustavus Adolphus. GAC was long overdue. I don’t have either in my last official rankings but have been trying to get NYU back in. Coming into the rankings, and destroying the WIAC conspiracy theory, were UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire.

The biggest jump this week was 4 spots by Chicago who are now at 15. The biggest fall was only 2 spots and that was done by a few teams.

Region X teams in the rankings are ETBU (10), La Verne (12), CMS (13), Southwestern (14), Trinity (21) and Whitworth (23). That’s a nice chunk of teams from Region X. The downside is that there were no other teams receiving votes.

Looking at the Top 25 NPI teams, and we see that the teams missing from the AVCA rankings are Salisbury (12), Franklin & Marshall (13), Babson (17), Gettysburg (19), William Smith (22), Chris Newport (24) and Virginia Wesleyan (25). Of those teams, only Chris Newport is not mentioned in the receiving votes section.
