AVCA Top 25 (10/01/19)
The week five AVCA Top 25 coaches poll is out, which you can find here.
There were no teams dropped or added this week and the top 4 remained in order. Emory retains the top spot with 58 first place votes followed by Calvin with 9 first place votes. Chicago also has 9 first place votes but lands again in the #3 spot. That leaves the fourth position to CMS as they came away with 1 first place vote. The other first place vote went to Johns Hopkins (16) and I don’t even have to look at the ballots to know which coach did it. The only new entry into the top 5 is Carthage as they moved up one spot.
The big movers were Johns Hopkins and Tufts as they both moved up 7 spots from last week. The big dropper goes to JWU (RI) who fell from 5th to 15th this week. I guess my question is why do we have coaches that vote for a three loss JWU team over an undefeated Tufts team that just swept JWU this past week?
My rankings came out yesterday and I once again differ with the AVCA on three teams (all New England Region). The AVCA has JWU (15), Babson (24) and Weselayn (25) while I have Mount Union (22), UW-Stevens Point (24) and Susquehanna (25).
Looking specifically at the West Region and we still have 3 teams in the Top 25 – CMS (4), Trinity (8) and Colorado College (9). In the receiving votes category, we now only have UT-Dallas. This is by far the worst showing for the West since I’ve been paying attention to these rankings.
No roll call this week. It just upsets me too much and I don’t need that in my life (today, anyways).
