Ask a silly question

Me to my son: Why are there Cheerios on the floor in the back of my car? Son: “I dunno Dad, there’s also the bag from Taco Bell from the other day, with a hard shell taco in it.” Apparently the fact that this family prefers hard tacos to soft was a point worth mentioning with the 2 day old bag of trash left under the back seat.
The Australian Open was the best tennis tournament I’ve watched in several years. The sheer joy of

watching Stanislas Wawrinka rip one-handed backhands, one after another, and come within a whisker of defeating the eventual champion Novak Djokovic made me giddy. Stan the man won the 1st set and but let a 5-2 second set lead get away from him. This ultimately cost him the match in a five set battle, but what a fight. If Stan can play like this moving forward and with the rejuvenated Federer, does that make Switzerland the team to beat in Davis Cup? If it’s indoors it could.

And speaking of great battles at this year’s Australian Open, Nicolás Almagro vs. David

Ferrer was unbelievable. Almagro was so aggressive. He hit a few one-handed backhands so hard it made Ferrer whiff. This of course had me over hitting my own one-handed backhand the next day trying to duplicate his shots. I really loved his effort and determination. Ferrer does not have the weapons of the top 4 but short of that he’s the best of the rest. What a phenomenal match.
At the end of the day, Andy Murray and Novak are the two strongest horses on tour today. They are so steady, have plenty of experience in finals and to beat them you have to be on your game from start to finish. I expect Nadal to challenge them but the days of Federer vs. Nadal in Sunday morning major finals are gone.

I considered having a cooking edition post including crock pot recipes with ghost peppers that blend seamlessly into the mix, a baked salmon recipe with butter and Montreal steak seasoning and a breadcrumb pork loin seared in a seasoning mix, baked and rested… but I’m not giving away my secrets. Feel free to reach out or suggest your favorites. I’ve been on such a cheese kick of late – you have to love the options available at Whole Foods and Wegmans.

My final question for the day – when did Wegmans turn into the Daytona 500? I made the mistake of going on a recent Saturday afternoon. The carts were whizzing by me, making abrupt turns, cutting me off and the four cart pile up in the produce section was ugly. I kid you not – I was run into, twice. Don’t forget your helmet – it’s dangerous out there folks.
