I felt little bit lucky yesterday, when I came across a word “Aseevagam” or Ajivika in a YouTube video. Even, though I got randomly, I felt happy and an emotion of achievement. Why I felt this much enthusiasm for a single word? Well, One or two months before, When I got to watch the recorded version of Jagaveera Pandian’s speech on “Kambarin Marupakkam” book launch event which held on 04.11.2017 (uploaded in Periyar channel in YouTube). In his speech he mentions the word “Aseevagam”, is one of the oldest Tamil religion, people follow this religion before Jainism, Buddhism and Brahmanism came to existence in south India. I am surprised to hear it. For the first time, I am hearing that a new kind of religion which people in Tamil Nadu have adhered it. Naturally, I got keen interest to learn more about the same. Unfortunately, due to poor audio recording, I am unable to pin point the word correctly and fails to get more information about the religion. However, I had a mental urge to get the correct word, and learn more about the same. Fortunately, yesterday when I watch the virtual Tamil university video channel in YouTube, I got the word clearly in Tamil and even more happy to have 1hr 30 minutes speech by Prof. Chitra Balasubramanian, about the religion “Aseevagam”. Not only, she elaborates the religion very clearly, she quotes more books for further reference to learn more.
