ASC Releases Schedule

The ASC has just released their 2020-21 volleyball schedule. As what should be the common approach with other conferences, the ASC is going with a conference only schedule. What may make the ASC unique, however, is that it is restricting play by divisions. The ASC is split into an East and West Division and this year the teams will only play inside their division. In normal years, teams play inside their division twice while playing outside just once.

The regular season will consist of 8 weeks starting the week of February 9th through the 13th. Teams will play once or twice that week with the specific dates and times to be announced. For each date, the teams will play each other twice. So, for the first week, Belhaven is at ETBU and we can expect two matches to take place at that location. A return match is schedule for later in the season. One thing to note is that since the East Division has one less team, they will have an open date in their schedule. It will be interesting to see if the schools are allowed to schedule out-of-conference for that open date.

A ninth week (slated for April 9th and 10th) is schedule for the ASC Tournament. The top 3 teams from each division will qualify with the two division leaders receiving byes.

The release of schedules is obvious a necessary step but it still remains to be seen how Covid-19 will think of all this. Plan for the future and hope there is one is probably the motto for the season.
