ASC Preseason Poll
The ASC has come out with their preseason poll, which you can find here.
My ASC preview post was released earlier and exactly matches the ASC poll with the exception of the placement of McMurry and Concordia (we have them swapped). In the ASC poll, both the coaches and SID vote on the ordering so there are 22 first place votes split between the two divisions. In the East Division, UT-Dallas received all but one first place vote with ETBU receiving the other. In the West Division fun and games reigned as UMHB “only” received 19 first place votes (should have received them all) with McMurry, Hardin-Simmons and last place Howard Payne each picking up the other votes.
Here was the ordering for the East Division:
Rank | Team (1st) | Pts. | 2018 Record (ASC) |
1. | UT Dallas (21) | 109 | 23-10 (13-1) |
2. | East Texas Baptist (1) | 85 | 14-15 (7-7) |
3. | LeTourneau | 67 | 7-21 (4-10) |
4. | Louisiana College | 38 | 5-22 (3-11) |
5. | Belhaven | 30 | 10-19 (2-12) |
Again, in my predictions, I had the same ordering. It should be noted that Belhaven is eligible for the conference tournament now that they are a full DIII member.
Here was the ordering for the West Division:
Rank | Team (1st) | Pts. | 2018 Record (ASC) |
1. | Mary Hardin-Baylor (19) | 129 | 28-5 (15-0) |
2. | McMurry (1) | 97 | 24-7 (11-4) |
3. | Concordia Texas | 84 | 19-12 (11-4) |
4. | Hardin-Simmons (1) | 74 | 15-12 (7-8) |
5. | Sul Ross State | 44 | 6-14 (5-10) |
6. | Howard Payne (1) | 34 | 6-21 (2-13) |
In my predictions I had Concordia 2nd and McMurry 3rd.
The ASC also produces a “Watch List” that consists of two players from each team nominated by their coaches. Some nominate freshmen while others nominate leaders from the previous year. In the past, UMHB wouldn’t participate but that policy seems to have changed with the new coach.
So, I guess come November the final grades for the conference’s predictions and my site’s predictions will come down to the ordering of McMurry and Concordia. No pressure.
