The first AP poll of the 2025 College Football Season is out. The new number one team in the country is Texas.

Texas received 25 first place votes along with 1,552 points to reach the top spot in the poll for the first time ever. They were also ranked number one in the coaches poll from a couple weeks ago. This is the first year Texas is number one in the AP poll entering the season.

Penn State follows at number two in the rankings. They got 23 first place votes and 1,547 points. They were picked third in the coach’s poll.

Ohio State came in third with 11 first place votes, after being ranked second in the coach’s poll. Clemson received four votes for the top spot and is ranked fourth after coming in sixth in the coach’s poll. Georgia rounds out the top five with one vote for first place. They fell one spot from fourth in the coach’s poll.

Notre Dame, Oregon, Alabama, LSU and Miami round out the top 10 in the AP poll. Notre Dame fell two spots to sixth, while the remaining teams in the top 10 kept their ranking from the coach’s poll. Oregon did receive a first-place vote as well, which made them the only team not in the top five to get a vote.

The SEC had the strongest presence in the poll with 10 teams, which is a record mark. The Big Ten has six teams in the top 25 followed by the Big 12 with four. The ACC only placed three teams in the top 25.

Now that we have both polls in place it’s time for the football season to begin. Will Texas live up to the lofty expectations of being number one in both polls? Tune in this season to find out.
