Another Going to DII?
I have been debating writing about this as I don’t have a direct source for this but there have been a number of different bits of information that I have been privileged to that tell me UT-Dallas could be moving to DII. I’ve written about the problems with ASC membership as a number of schools (Sul Ross State, Concordia, McMurry) have announced that they will be departing in the next year. This would be another giant blow to the conference that would be difficult to overcome. It would also be a huge blow to Texas volleyball programs, the region as a whole and DIII, in general. With respect to volleyball, the program has been in existence for 19 seasons and has grown under Marci Allison and now Zach Villarreal to become a powerhouse.
There have been rumblings about UT-Dallas moving to DII for a number of years, but I had thought just prior to the pandemic that those plans had been scrapped. UT-Tyler announced their move from DIII (and the ASC) back in 2018. I expect, if UT-Dallas also moves, that they would follow the Patriots’ path and gain acceptance to the Lone Star Conference.
Based on what I know, I think this move is about 90% sure of happening and I’m being conservative. There are just too many little bits of news floating around from different directions for there to be another possibility. Still, I could be wrong and I do hope that is the case. I mean it’s getting to the point where my site has to cover the C2C, the SAA and now all of DII?
