And the winner is…???

A short article indicated that the best-selling item at Costco is the toilet paper, selling more than a billion rolls (earning about $400 million) each year!

In fact, they take their toilet paper so seriously (they don’t “mess around”…groan, groan, groan) that they even hire toilet paper engineers (is that really a job title? Or do they also review other paper goods? If not, I guess there really is specialization in business…) to review and test the toilet paper before selling it. The article specifies that they have special equipment to test the color of the toilet paper.

After this short article, a lot of people commented on what they would have guessed the the top selling item is…popular guesses included the rotisserie chickens, and the hot dog/soda combo. My favorite guess was “costco membership”–I think it is very clever. However, unless people really do not understand the concept, I don’t think many are buying lots and lots of memberships 🙂
