A Tom Mix Double Header

A head’s up about Undercrank Productions’ latest restored silent film release, featuring two Tom Mix pictures Sky High (1922) and The Big Diamond Robbery (1929).
As we wrote in our post about Mix, he was not only one of the biggest screen stars of the silent era, he was the avatar of the pendulum swing away from the western realism of William S. Hart. Search every inch of the American desert, only in movies would you ever encounter a character like Tom Mix. (The aforementioned post will also illuminate the grim pun behind my phrases “double header” and “head’s up”). The now-a-century-old Sky High was for Fox (cradle of John Ford) and featured J. Farrell MacDonald and Eva Novak. The Big Diamond Robbery was Mix’s last silent movie (and a very late one at that) and was for FBO, parent company of RKO. Directed by Eugene Forde, it co-stars Kathryn McGuire, whom we know from Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr.and The Navigator, as well as some Educational shorts. This film has been under wraps since its original release! The release is available in both DVD and Blu-Ray formats; more on it can be found here.
