A Prayer for My Boys as They Head Back to School
Heavenly Father,
Where does the time go? You are timeless; you are eternal. Your word says that a day of your time is like 1,000 years of our time. What an amazing thought! We don’t measure time as you do. And yet, as each year passes, it seems like so much has happened.
Will You help me understand how important the time with my boys is? As they head back to school this week, please help me keep in mind how vital their years of education are? I want them to value their time as they sit under the teaching of trained men and women.
Will You help them keep the faith? Spiritual warfare is all around them, and it exists everywhere. Every Christian student – whether schooled at home or elsewhere – is under the Evil One’s attack. Will you protect my boys from evil? Will you enable them to thrive when temptation visits them?
Will You give them opportunities to show others Christ? When the pressure to follow man arrives, will you help them stand as young men of integrity? Help them remember the inspiring examples of men like Daniel, Paul and your son Jesus Christ. Help them remember the virbrant testimonies of men like Spurgeon, Luther, and Ryle.
And finally, Lord, will You protect them from, a prideful heart? When they make mistakes, when they don’t do their best, when they don’t use godly words, will you show them their need for You? Will you remind them in those moments that they are not as special as the flesh tells them they are? Will you help them love the pursuit of humility?
Thank you, Father, for them. Thank you for education. And thank you for this arena of sanctification for them.
