A Hot Return | “Pon Dem” by Piers James
UK Rapper, Piers James, Rewards us for Surviving the Heat with New Jam, “Pon Dem”
Following on from his latest acclaimed release “Done Properly” earlier this year, (premiered with BBC R1Xtra’s DJ Target), cult UK rapper Piers James returns with a bonafide summer jam in “Pon Dem”.
The Ipswich-born artist continues firmly in his own lane in terms of style, confidently blending a fresh, warped synth instrumental with the kind of sung chorus that shows the kind of mainstream potential and ambition Piers is bringing from outside the traditional urban spheres of London, Birmingham and Manchester.

It’s exactly that fresh ‘unorthodoxy’ that’s created significant intrigue in the emerging rapper; with over 100k streams on his last project in just under a month, Piers’ summer continues with a shutdown performance at LATITUDE Festival, an upcoming Tea Party Festival slot alongside Crazy Cousins and continued support from across the tastemaker spectrum – with 1Xtra, Kiss FM, BBC R6 Music as well as the likes of WONDERLAND MAGAZINE and GRM Daily all quick to proclaim the kind of talent that reminds why the UK scene remains one of the most diversely vibrant bar none. Piers is an increasing problem and with “Pon Dem” he may have found the breakthrough.
