A Finding Aid for Travalanche Posts about “The Wizard of Oz”

May 15 being the birthday of author L. Frank Baum, we thought today would be an appropriate time to create a finding aid for our dozens of posts related to my favorite childhood author and the many adaptations of his works. You’ll quickly see that it’s a veritable Who’s Who of people with backgrounds in vaudeville, stock theatre, and the like. It’s very much among the factors that led me to my lifelong passion for these forms.

BOOKS
Also my good friend Edward Einhorn and illustrator Eric Shanower wrote two Oz books: The Living House of Oz, and Paradox in Oz,

THE 1939 MGM FILM

LATER SCREEN ADAPTATIONS
Wicked (book 1995, musical 2003, movie 2025): A glaring omission here, to be sure. The truth is, I have avoided this phenomenon with great trepidation in the fear that it would have the same alienating effect upon me that Oz the Great and Powerfuland The Greatest Showman did. My entire reason for being is that I like old stuff! But I will grapple with it at some point, and I have given some thought to a positive approach that I might take in doing that. Meantime, it just so happens that my old friend and former editor David Cote wrote the 2005 book about the musical, and so I will refer you to that book for reliable commentary on the subject.
Lastly, Oz freaks will be glad to know that the next edition of OzCon, the International Oz Convention is taking place in Burbank, California June 20-22. All the info on that is here.
