A Film by Any Other Name…
Apparently, before (1988) was named, the title it had was , but Steven Spielberg had used that name a year before. They also almost named it , but thankfully went with the handle we all know today. Here are some other movies that were almost called something else:
(1979) ➡
(1978) ➡
(1987) ➡
(1959) ➡
(1990) ➡ Apparently this was the plan, but then it was discovered that there already was a movie with this title. Hence,
(1996) ➡
(1942) ➡ This was the name of the play that was adapted from.
(1988) ➡
(1985) ➡ It was also suggested to be called
(1968) ➡ This was a play on the movie , but the studio didn’t like it.
(1933) ➡
(2010) ➡
(1994) ➡
(1990) ➡
(2006) ➡ Yup, that was the working title for what was supposed to be But they decided to go with the cheeky way-too-obvious, which ended up being a good decision.
(1995) ➡
And then there are movies that producers didn’t want being discovered until they were announced:
The Avengers ➡ Group Hug
Transformers ➡ Prime Directive
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial ➡ A Boy’s Life
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring ➡ Changing Seasons
Psycho ➡ Wimpy
Captain America: Winter Soldier ➡ Freezer Burn
Titanic ➡ Planet Ice
