A most useful activity being conducted here, during this very mild spell, is the burying away of fallen leaves by our great population of worms.

Not such a good sign, is that some of our apple trees are bursting into growth again. Also, some medlars are bletting on the trees already.

Unpopular as it may seem to suggest, a long period of serious cold is needed this winter to readjust the trees by early next Spring.

Otherwise, there are some signs that it is October with the tomatoes now finishing and parsnips available.
