500 Posts And Almost As Many Friends.
Wow, 500! That’s a big number. That’s like 2 more than 498! I wasn’t even aware of this landmark until I was notified by WordPress. 500? It’s the same amount that contributes to a configuration error on your computer as well as the number of miles the proclaimers would walk to wind up at you’re door, but also the number of published article’s on my site. Not only have I published 500 original, largely incomprehensible articles with all the discerning research of a FOX news editor, but also achieved it in a 5 year spell while almost attracting 500 blog subscriptions! Having converted so many willful participants to my site is probably one of my proudest achievements and comes with a profound sense of responsibility. Embarking on this endeavour almost 5 years ago was tremendously anxious affair. To have you’re thoughts/faults exposed to the world, even with such minimal notoriety is enough to encourage a little less bladder retention. You’re always wondering “What will people say?” “How will they react?” Worse still “What if they didn’t react?!” Yet the WordPress community made it exceptionally easy to navigate unfamiliar territory as well as inviting new participants such as myself to the cabal. Commencing on a journey that’s ending was unclear became an exhilarating skirmish composed of both the unknown and the familiar. I’d routinely exhibit a new article once every 3 days, applying rigorous frivolity, farcical conjecture concerning Nathan Drakes similarities with me, as well as forging allies with you beautiful people sympathetic to my mental delusions. Now I’m lucky if I can produce 2 vaguely legible columns a week.
My initiative from the very beginning was to produce content that was a little more obscure, that casual readers would see remark upon with a raised eyebrow and say “what? Are you sure” or even “seek medical advice immediately!”. Hosting a sincere myopic view of gaming and it’s subsidiary culture with earnest analytical fervour. What I discovered is that my encouraged eccentricity isn’t as singular as I had expected. The community as a unit, bolstered by people such as yourself are, and I mean this with all the affinity in world as crazy as a Big Mac at a KFC! Visibility to this bonkers environment has been hugely educational. The ubiquitous bond reflected in my interactions with other bloggers is a binding levity absent from other forms of media. How we interact, express disappointment, pleasure or even resentment has changed significantly since I first initiated this site. There’s an immediacy to it, an organic spontaneity associated with online expressions via the likes of Twitter, Facebook etc now providing gamers with immediate links to any gaming revelation. So trying to get our hushed voices heard over acoustic warbling of more professional outlets is largely academic, because it doesn’t really matter. I’ve had to rely on the dedicated gestures of bloggers just like you for views, acknowledgement and inspiration. A community that permits expression and facilitates diversity. People that transcend the limitations of anonymity and become living breathing people, not merely names and profile pictures. Whose recommendations mean more to me than any professional publication.
Thank you to everyone who has ever taken the time to read any of my speculative ramblings I’ve decided to commit to artificial print. And in turn thank you for producing honest content that contributes to comprehensive range of diverse opinions recognised by other bloggers or commenters, offsetting the fallible contributions and fallacious deception affiliated with bigger sites, rooted in an industry riddled by corruption. For me however it’s a year of transition. I have lots of personal activities influencing the trajectory of my life making blogging consistently more problematic. In time my contributions will probably diminish, but that won’t prevent me from trying.
One day I’m going to host a huge party to which you are all invited (food and drink will be amply supplied). But until then here’s to you and another 500 posts. Cheers!
