Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with Thee;Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; as Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, sun, moon, and stars in their courses aboveJoin with all nature in manifold witness to Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow—blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!Morning by morning new mercies I see:All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Date: 17th-18th century

Writer(s): Thomas O. Chisholm

Background for writing: The author of this hymn was aware of the daily, faithful provisions, because he leaned upon the Lord due to his lack of financial gain in life. Chisholm was born in a rustic cabin and never been given a formal education on any level. He didn’t have much, but he had a faithful God who gave him as much as he needed.

5 Lessons:

  1. He is faithful, because He is our Father, and fathers provide.

  2. God will not change.

  3. All of creation knows and recognizes His faithfulness.

  4. Our strength comes from the truth that Jesus has forgiven our sins.

  5. His faithfulness can be observed every day.
