How will West Virgina fare this upcoming football season?

It was a bit of an unimpressive season for West Virgina in 2024. They finished 6-7 and lost to Memphis in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl. Granted four of those seven losses were to top 25 ranked teams, but they still lost more than they won in 2024. The loss to rival Pitt by four points also has to hurt.

West Virgina isn’t ranked in either poll to start the season. ESPN ranked them in Tier 14 room for improvement. They noted that a 9-4 2023 was a bit of an outlier season as every other season sense 2019 has been a six- or seven-win campaign. Which speaks to consistency if noting noteworthy.

Though they are ranked 14th out of 16th in this poll, which is rough.

The schedule looks decent. Both of the ranked games are at the end of the season, which could be a tough way to end the season. Yet to start the season are a couple of should be easy games and hosting Pitt. I think a good prediction is most likely status quo at six, or seven wins.

West Virgina brought in a lot of new faces this season with 52 transfers. However, they look to be stacked at running back as a result, alongside returning Jahiem White, who rushed for 845 yards and seven touchdowns last year.

West Virgina is getting a new defensive coordinator in Zac Alley. Rich Rodriguez is also returning as head coach for his second stint in Morgantown. There’s no shortage of new things to be excited about this season.

Game one of the season is Saturday August 30th, 2025, against Robert Morris. Be sure to tune in to see if they can start the season off with a win.
