The first major title of the year is on the line. Who would win this year’s PBA U.S. Open? Let’s recap the stepladder finals.
The final nine actually made the stepladder this week with the first part taking place on Saturday February 1, and the second part taking place on Sunday February 2, 2025.
Last Week’s winner Graham Fach qualified ninth and faced Kris Prather in the opening match. Fach would be unable to win back-to-back titles as he fell 244-190 to Prather in that match.
Landin Jordan the seventh seed then faced Prather in the next match. Prather won it 218-170 to advance.
Prather’s run would then come to a halt in the next match as sixth seed Tom Daugherty defeated him 214-177.
This set up the last match of day one with Daugherty facing fifth seed Anthony Simonsen. Simonsen outlasted Daugherty 233-211 to advance to the championship stage of the stepladder finals.
François Lavoie the number four qualifier would face Simonsen in the day two opener. Lavoie would eliminate Simonsen with a 246-206 victory.
Chris Via would then eliminate Lavoie after a hard-fought match with a 238-226 victory.
Via would then struggle in the semifinal match putting up the lowest score of the day with a 152. EJ Tackett threw a 245 to cruise to an easy victory and spot in the championship match.
Andrew Anderson was the top seed for the stepladder. However, Tackett didn’t back down as he rolled a 238 game, more than enough to best Anderson’s 184. The win gives Tackett his first title of the season. It is also his second U.S. Open title. He becomes the 13th player to win multiple U.S. Open titles.
Can Tackett continue to win this week as the PBA Tour heads to Illinois for the Illinois Classic? Can’t wait to tune in and find out.
