The PBA is starting to announce the finalists for their 2025 season awards. This included the announcing of the top seven bowlers in the running to win the coveted player of the year award.
Andrew Anderson, Jason Belmonte, Graham Fach, Ethan Fiore, Jesper Svensson, EJ Tackett, and Chris Via are all in consideration to win the award.
Anderson had a strong year with two title wins and seven top five finishes in 18 events this season. He finished second in points, and third in both average and tour earnings. He last won player of the year in 2018.
Belmonte last won player of the year in 2022 and is looking to win the award for a record eighth time. He won one title this year, as well as was part of the PBA League Battle of the Brands winning Team Storm. He finished third in points and second in average this season.
Fach was a one-time winner this season. He finished fourth in points and five top finishes. He finished in the top 10 of three major championship tournaments, which was the second most on tour this season.
Fiore won his first career title and major at the PBA Players championship. He finished eighth in points, while finishing in the top five three times. He is the youngest player at age 21 to be nominated for the player of the year award sense 2016 when Anthony Simonsen was nominated at 19.
Svensson won a pair of titles when he won back-to-back at the PBA Tournament of champions and PBA playoffs. He is ranked second in earnings and seventh in points.
Tackett has won the past two player of the year awards. This season he won four titles, including the U.S Open. He reached a record seven consecutive championship round appearances in singles title events. This allowed him to lead the tour in points, earnings and average. His average this season was the fourth highest ever in a single season. Though heading into the last event of the season Tackett had a chance to break the all-time single season average record. He put up another strong campaign and it looks very likely he wins for the third season in a row.
Via won one title this year and finished sixth in points. He also was a member of Team Storm that won the Battle of the Brands. He was consistent this season with 12 cashes in 16 events, four top five finishes and seven top 10 finishes.
The field for the award is pretty competitive. The question is will anyone be able to overcome Tackett’s chances for three in a row? It’s going to be tough to do.
Voting is underway for the award. It will be announced who wins later in the month. Be sure to tune in to see who wins.
