2025 MLW Slate Five Series Three

The playoff race continues heading into the penultimate series of the slate.

MLW this week is a matchup between the Downtown Diamondbacks and Pacific Predators. Both teams enter play at 6-6 and are looking to reach the playoffs in a tight MLW standings. Let’s breakdown the series and what’s at stake for the playoff race.

The Predators got a bit of revenge from their 2024 world series loss with a 2-1 series win over the Eagles in slate four. This got them back to .500 and in the middle of the playoff race. They also made a trade with the Coastal Cobras ahead of the slate four match to help try and boost their hitting and defense ahead of a playoff push.

Here’s what the Predators are looking at as far as clinching a playoff spot.

  1. If they win all three games and go 9-6, they are in without question. However, they cannot earn a bye.

  2. If they win two out of three and go 8-7, they make it in and also do not receive a bye.

  3. If they win one game and finish 7-8, they get in regardless of the Cobras and Eagles series results.

  4. If they are swept and finish 6-9 the season is over, and they miss the playoffs.

The Downtown Diamondbacks took two out of three from the Great Lakes Gators during slate four to also reach the .500 mark. They are in a pretty similar position to the Predators in the playoff race as well.

  1. If they sweep and go 9-6, they are in the playoffs. A sweep also earns them a bye.

  2. Taking two out of three games puts them at 8-7 and gets them into the playoffs, but without the bye.

  3. Taking one out of three gives them a chance to reach the playoffs, but only if the Cobras win two out of three games against the Eagles. Any other result would eliminate the Diamondbacks.

  4. If they are swept, they finish 6-9 and are out of the playoffs.

Still a lot left to play for in this next to last series of the regular season. My prediction for the series winner is Diamondbacks 2-1.
