2021 Recruits Page is Up

Left side menu (computer) or pull down (most anything else) now has the 2021 Recruits Page. Not many players listed, so far. This becomes the most popular page each year and I’ll be updating it all the way through August.

2021 will make this interesting because the NCAA has frozen DI recruiting until April 15th so I assume some decisions will be delayed. With players gaining an extra year of eligibility it also means that schools may have too many players at all levels of play. We may see some players listed on both the 2020 page and the 2021 page simply because Covid convinced them to take a gap year. Anyway…interesting.

Since I’m in the mood, let me talk to the recruits out there they may have stumbled on this post. The most important thing in my opinion is to pick the best school for you that you can afford. Unless you have the talent to play professionally following college, it really doesn’t matter where you play. Decide if you want to sit on the bench and for how many years or do you want to be a 3- or 4-year starter. Make sure you properly understand what is your most likely 4-year route (i.e., how much you get to play) with each school. Make sure you understand that coaches leave programs and teammates change out. Will you be happy at the school if an injury takes volleyball away from you? If your academics are high, understand that you have earned additional academic scholarship opportunities from all levels of volleyball. Remember that athletic scholarships are often 1-year renewable while academic scholarships are for 4-years. If you have DI talent you will often be pushed to play for a DI program when it’s not in your best long-term interest. Often, this push will be from yourself. Enjoy the process, embrace the stress and just make sure when you reach the end you are happy.
