2020 (2021) AVCA Week 2 poll: Trinity (Texas) new No. 1

Trinity (Texas) is the new top-ranked team in the AVCA Week 2 poll. The top five teams remain unchanged from Week 1 as Carthage dropped one spot to No. 2 while Transylvania, Colorado College and Millikin stayed in the 3-5 spots.

Other Central and Midwest region teams in the Week 2 top 25: No. 10 Westminster; No. 11 Cornell; No. 12 Coe; No. 15 Greenville; No. 16 Loras; No. 18 Elmhurst; No. 22 Webster; No. 23 Wartburg. Loras and Webster are ranked for the first time. Westminster, Cornell, Coe, Greenville and Webster have never been ranked higher.

Central and Midwest region teams also receiving votes this week: Buena Vista; Wisconsin-Superior; Simpson.

Teams now must have played a match to be eligible for the poll. I think that is solid policy. However, are we not aware that Northwestern played plenty during the fall, once in February and has a UMAC slate on deck? If that Northwestern team I watched all fall isn’t a top 25 team compared to teams currently receiving votes, then I am not sure what we’re doing here.
