2018 EULCS Summer Split Semi-Finals
S. Samek
Two best of five matchup determined who will play for an EU championship and a spot in the world championship. First up was the much improved S04 and Vitality in the first best of five. Game one started quickly with a two-minute first blood for SO4. At 14:30 minutes 11 kills were on the board with Vitality holding the six to five advantage. Then So4 fought a couple fights and a few kills into taking a baron 21 minutes in. After a wild fight at the bottom inhibitor turret So4 held a 16-13 and was able to push toward victory. Nukeduck led the way with 11 kills for So4 in the win. Game two wasn’t close at all. 22-6 in kills with two players for So4 toping Vitality’s team kills total. Upset and Vizicsacsi both had seven kills in the easy win putting So4 up 2-0. Game three came down to a pair of team fights. Luckily for Vitality they went their way. Kikis had nine kills on Kindred, while Atilla added six using Draven as Vitality stayed alive in the series 2-1. So4 held the early led for game four. Vitality then mounted a comeback to shorten the led around the 30 minutes mark. However, an ace for S04 at 35:30 was the rest of the fuel they needed to take out the nexus and advance to the finals 3 games to one over Vitality. Nukeduck and Upset were once again a dangerous duo combining for 14 kills and 14 assists in the deciding game.
Misfits and Fnatic battled in the other semi-final matchup. Game one was even for a large portion of it. Then it changed in a blink as Fnatic scored an ace 25 :40 into it. The ace was the final play needed to start the push toward the nexus as Fnatic took game one. Caps and Rekkles each had five kills to lead Fnatic. In game two Misfits struck first and held the early led. Then kept this control for the rest of the game to even up the series at one. Hans Sama had eight kills to pace Misfits. Game three looked similar to game two. Misfits held a led and looked good. Yet Fnatic somehow found a way to score an ace, similar to game one that would turn it all around. Combining the ace with a baron Fnatic was able to steal victory and go up 2-1. Caps had five kills with a mid-lane Vayne, which came at key times during the Fnatic push to victory. Game four was another close one. Each team battled to control this one. Once more Fnatic found an advantage as a team fight in the middle lane went in their favor. This would be the nail in Misfits coffin as Fnatic advances to the finals for the second split in a row. Caps continued his strong series with 10 kills, showing why he was the choice for EU all-pro team this split. Next up we have the finals. This is between the much improved S04 and the defending spring split champs in Fnatic. Should be an exciting matchup with a birth in the world championship at stake.
