Well we previewed it and now the tournaments over. Let’s take a look at how the League of Legends college championships went down.
In the first match it was the favorite and returning champ Maryville vs. Illinois.
This wins for most unexpected outcome of the day. The match went two to nothing, but it wasn’t the favorites moving on.
Illinois took game one in close fashion, then shut down an early Maryville lead in game to to role to a 14-4 win and moved on to the semi-finals.
The four vs. five seed match was UT-Dallas and Columbia College. Game one was a romp for Columbia 18-4 led by a Yasuo and Orianna both with qudra kills.
Game two was a little lighter on fighting and kill, managing just a 6-2 score, but Columbia played clean in other areas of the game to take the series in a two game sweep.
Maryland took on western Ontario in the next matchup. In game one it was all Western Ontario with a 21-6 win highlighted by a Graves and Caitlyn both with nine kills and perfect kda ratios.
Maryland then fought back in game two despite the interesting pick to go Nunu in the top lane.
The Terrapins then went with another weird top lane in Morgana in game three. It worked to some degree as the first blood went over to Morgana. The led was able to be held from some team fighting and a baron play. While Fiora, the top lane opponent tried hard to spit push, but ran out of time moving Maryland on in the tournament.
The final quarterfinal was between Ottawa and UC Irvine. The first game was super close, and not super entertaining, but it worked for UC Irvine.
Then they turned up the intensity in game two and rolled to an easy win dominating everywhere and making it look easy. This game also included a Penta kill by Lattman on Caitlyn for UC Irvine.
In the semi-finals Columbia College took on Illinois. In game one a close match was taken by Columbia College. Game two was all Columbia College with a Yasuo and Cassiopeia running the show.
In game three the name of the game was speed. It was a quick game and it was taken by Columbia College to earn them a trip to the finals.
UC Irvine took on Maryland in the other semifinal. Game one was close but taken by Irvine. Game two was so one sided that Maryland surrendered. In game three Maryland was able to win thanks to good team fighting to stay alive and force game four.
Yet that was the end of the road as UC Irvine took over the game starting with a successful level one invade that netted them a 2-0 lead and never looked back.
The finals series took the minimum three games.
Game one went fairly even in kills, but in gold it was another story. A 10,000 gold led gave Uc Irvine enough firepower to win.
Game two was another close one, and yet again taken by UC Irvine.
Game three left no doubt who the best team in the bracket was. UC Irvine snowballed an early led to a big win.
It was a wild ride of a tournament, but a solid team won it.
