2 Soul Sisters, Lusby, Calvert County, Maryland
UPDATE — I’m afraid that 2 Soul Sisters has closed.
I’m a huge fan of 2 Soul Sisters. On my last visit, I branched out beyond breakfast and found further confirmation that 2 Soul Sisters is a wonderful place to eat.
This, my friends, is a pork chop sandwich, here served open faced over two slices of bread. As you can see, this is one big pork chop, a pork chop for the ages.

You may never have had a pork chop sandwich, but they are a wonder. You don’t see them much up here. The only other place I can recall even seeing one recently was at the Blue and White in Alexandria. (I chose the chicken leg quarter sandwich, which was excellent.) They have pork chop sandwiches on the menu at H&L’s, but I had to leave for Martelle’s Feed House before the oil was ready.
This one was a particularly fine example. I got it at 2 Soul Sisters down in the Lusby Town Center shopping center. It’s off HG Trueman Road in Calvert County, maybe five miles before you get to Solomons Island. I’m a huge fan of 2 Soul Sisters. They’re good friendly people, and they cook everything in cast iron pans. That makes a world of difference. Deep fried just can’t hold a candle to pan fried in cast iron.
How, you might ask, am I supposed to eat that? Begin at the beginning. Put it between the two slices and eat around the edges so that the pork chop fits between the two slices of bread which, at 2 Soul Sisters, are home-made, and very good in their own right. So far, it’s just like eating a softshell crab sandwich or one of those pork tenderloin sandwiches in Iowa. Then eat it as you would any sandwich. What about the bone? You cross that bridge when you come to it. Avoid the bone until you get to it, then separate the bone from the bread, and eat the bread. If you’re alone or among understanding family and friends, you gnaw on the bone to get every morsel of goodness.
Like everything else I’ve tried at 2 Soul Sisters for breakfast, their pork chop sandwich was outstanding. And there’s a lot more I want to try there, not least their home-made scrapple now that I’ve actually tried scrapple at Linda’s Cafe. Also their seafood and salmon cakes and their dessert cakes and …. You tell me what else I should try at 2 Soul Sisters.
